5. Ranking Criteria (Regular Season)

1. Games Won and Lost

  • The number of games won is the primary factor in determining a team’s ranking.

  • If two teams have the same number of wins, the team with fewer losses will be ranked higher.

2. Points Differential (Tiebreaker)

If two or more teams have the same win-loss record, rankings will be decided based on Points Differential.

What is Points Differential?

Points Differential is the difference between the total points a team has scored and the total points they have allowed their opponents to score over the season.

How is it calculated?

Points Differential = Total Points Scored – Total Points Allowed

Example:

  • Team A: Scored 450 points, Allowed 400

    • Points Differential = 450 – 400 = +50

  • Team B: Scored 460 points, Allowed 430

    • Points Differential = 460 – 430 = +30

Team A ranks higher because their differential is better (+50 vs. +30), meaning they won their games more convincingly.

Why it matters:

  • It rewards teams who not only win but also perform consistently well across all sets.

  • It helps break ties fairly and objectively without needing extra matches.
